A new variant cattle for Indonesia

A Breeder officer writes a note inside a Brahman Cross beef cattle which is pregnant, after crossbreeding with an insemination of F1 Nelore from Brazil-Brazil cattle, in the feedlot of PT Santosa Agrindo (Santori), a subsidiary of PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia, in Probolinggo Regency, on Thursday October 17, 2019. PT Santori claims successfully in breeding a new F1 Nelore broiler, which has an average daily gain (ADG) of 1.3 kilograms. A cow can reach 600 kilograms in 18 months. Cattle that have been bred for testing since 2017, are claimed to be able to withstand the tropical climate in Indonesia more than any other beef cattle currently available, the ratio of reproductive success is also claimed to be the highest, and more resistant to diseases and parasites that attack. This type of breeding is said to be able to realize meat self-sufficiency in Indonesia, where domestic beef production is currently still 360,397 tons, while the estimated national demand reaches 712,893 tons. Petugas breeder tengah melakukan pencatatan di dalam kandang sapi pedaging jenis Brahman Cross yang tengah bunting, usai dikawin-silangkan dengan inseminasi semen sapi jenis F1 Nelore asal Amerika-Brasil, di feedlot PT Santosa Agrindo (Santori), anak perusahaan PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia, di Kabupaten Probolinggo, Kamis (17/10/2019). PT Santori mengklaim berhasil mengembangbiakkan sapi pedaging baru jenis F1 Nelore, yang memiliki average daily gain (ADG) 1,3 kilogram, atau seekor sapi mampu mencapai berat 600 kilogram dalam waktu 18 bulan. Sapi yang pengembangbiakkannya diujicoba sejak 2017 ini, diklaim paling mampu bertahan dengan iklim tropis di Indonesia dibanding sapi potong lain yang ada saat ini, rasio keberhasilan reproduksi juga diklaim paling tinggi, serta lebih tahan terhadap penyakit dan parasit yang menyerang. Pengembangbiakkan jenis ini dikatakan akan mampu mewujudkan swasembada daging di Indonesia, dimana produksi daging sapi potong dalam negeri saat ini masih 360.397 ton, sedangkan perkiraan kebutuhan nasional mencapai 712.893 ton.
